LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE
PAMPELOPONISSIAN NATIONAL STADIUM OF PATRAS
The planting design of the Pampeloponissian National stadium of Patras, prepared for the Olympic Games 2004 in Greece, was assigned by the General Secretariat of Sports to Katerina Gkoltsiou who was awarded the 1st prize in this national design competition.
The aim of the particular study was to present a comprehensive planting proposal, where all the plant species (type and position) and their numbers would be analytically described. Special care was given to the protection of the existing vegetation and towards the transplantation of trees.
The landscape was assessed in terms of its physical attributes such as vegetation, soil, relief and in terms of aesthetics or perceptual qualities. During the design phase, the main goal was to improve the natural landscape and to adjust its character to Achaia's micro landscape.
